Gum disease, also known as periodontal disease; is an inflammatory condition that results in the destruction of the tissue and bone that secures the teeth in the jaw. Gum disease is a preventable disease - if diagnosed early, however, established gum disease becomes very hard to stabilise, hence prevention is essential.
Some symptoms of gum disease include; bleeding gums, bad breath, bad taste, recession and loose teeth. However, some patients do not suffer with any symptoms, therefore regular hygiene services are recommended to monitor for signs of gum disease.
If a patient does develop gum disease, our aim is to control the disease, ensuring no further damage occurs. This is achieved by making sure that each patient has an individual care plan, which allows them to control their own condition once at home.
